I found this book very useful. The diagrams were clear, measurements were offered for a range of block sizes, and the book lays flat and stays open to a page. Nice, glossy, high-quality paper should last a long time. I also took advantage of the offer to get a Kindle copy for an extra $10 and was pleased with it as well. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to design their own quilts. How about a sequel?
As a new quilter, I can not say enough good things about this book. I love everything about it. I love the pictures of ALL the blocks offered at the very front of the book. I LOVE the detail put into each block in the instructions section, especially the grids! The grids allow you to look at your favorite blocks and see if they can work together in an over all quilt based on size and pattern. Very pleased with my Mother's Day gift.
This is a superb book for quilting block reference. All the blocks are listed with rotary cutting directions, easy to follow directions. The author did an outstanding job of replicating the most traditional blocks for use with a rotary cutter. Personally I hate using templates. For me, rotary cutting is so much easier and faster. I would highly recommend this book especially for beginning quilters, but also for any level of quilter that prefers to use a rotary cutter. This is a book of blocks only. There are templates to refer to when the patterns tell you what parts need to be cut, but they are easily measured to use the rotary cutter for cutting the fabric. I believe this to be a most valuable reference tool for quilt block construction. I am very pleased to have found it.
Five-Star Book but not as helpful as Kindle Version. I have the Printed copy and use it frequently. I was hoping that the Kindle version would allow me to PRINT the needed pages to go with my current project. Even with "print screen" the resulting print is not very usable. I understand that copy write is an issue. I will continue to photo copy from my printed book as needed. I would love the printed version even more If it was in a spiral bound book that easily allowed pages to be flat on the printer!
Was purchased for my quilter mom for her birthday. Helpful because she is making a Cal-King quilt in reds & whites and wants every 8" block to be different. Lots of great quilt blocks from easy to difficult. That said, brand new quilters should save this book for later because there are virtually no directions (moderately experienced quilters and above). Additionally, while there are multiple size guides for each block pattern, they are not all uniform (i.e. not all 501 blocks have size guides/directions for 8" blocks) some will have 7" and 9" while another will have 5.5" and 8".

This is actually all three of Judy Hopkins previous books combined for the cost of only one!!! (Around the Block, Around the Block Again, & Once More Around the Block) This is NOT a how to book. You need to KNOW how to SEW and have basic quilting background. These patterns are meant to be ROTARY cut! Here you will find a color example of the block and then you will have a diagram that shows the basic construction in MINIMAL detail but the most excellent part is that you are given VARIOUS size blocks. You need 6" blocks fine, 12" blocks no problem. There is a HUGE reason why the original books are all sold out and selling for greater than the cover, it is because the patterns are solid. You need this book, use it for centers, swaps, borders, and you won't be disappointed!
