Not a guide book at all, more of a opinion book, 99% of the information in this book can be found on the Havasupi website. No information on what to do once at your campsite. No recommend trails to take or visit, no must do hikes. Pretty much a worthless book
The author does a great job with the history, but I was hoping for more I do on hikes and swimming or hanging out at the campground during the day while on the reservation. Too much info on basic travel skills.
Unfortunately, the sample contains only 13 reasons why you should NOT go on this hike. As the sample didn't contain content beyond that, it is impossible to judge whether it's worth buying ...I will say this: there are a few grammatical mistakes in the content I could view. If that sort of thing is likely to bug you, I'd probably look elsewhere .. but if it doesn't (it doesn't bug me), then perhaps it's worth reading.Either way, the sample isn't going to help judge whether the book is worth reading. Bummer.
I read this to prepare for an upcoming trip to Havasupai (of course)...and I found almost all of it to be information readily available on the Havasupai website and Facebook groups. In addition, the book actually repeats itself quite often. I had hoped there would be more history/culture, trail info, or other "insider information" that is harder to come by. But it will be helpful to have something I can bring with me on the trip as a reference.
Great, detailed book on how to score permits to visit Havasu Reservation in the Grand Canyon, either camping or at the lodge. How to prepare, what to pack, what to expect, what to do once you are there. a MUST-HAVE if you've never been before. Also good, if you have been to Havasu, tells you of any new changes in their system in obtaining permits for 2019. Though I feel I am a somewhat seasoned traveler to this magical place, I learned a few new tips. You will get more than your money's worth of information!
