This is my first traveler's guide. I read it because I was curious how those kinds of books look like. Since I'm not a big traveler I was always fascinated with people who like to travel and are ready to spend days in some flying/driving cabin and get to the far destination just to be there. And maybe be disappointed because photos in travelers agency brochure don't show the real situation.First of all, I like Napoleon's quotes at the beginning of every chapter. They made me smile every time I read it. I expected serious chapters about traveling, hotels, places to see, and instead of it, I got a very humorous text, full of anecdotes, with a lot of historical and cultural facts. Now I know so many things about Malta and I don't even plan to visit it!Of course, there are beautiful photos and useful information about where to go, how to go, and so on, which will be interesting to real travelers. Me, staying at home at the moment, is satisfied with a story about Malta.
One of the hardest parts of planning an overseas trip is knowing where all the best places to stay are. Sure, you can buy a guidebook and follow it to the letter. Or you can book a 12-day whistle stop tour and blast your way through the country.So where can you go to find the Malta tourist information you need? Like anything, finding real people to talk to helps. If people just like you have found a cool spot that had the most amazing views, the best amenities, the tours that gave the best value for money, surely, you'd want them to tell you all about it right?Well, The Ultimate Island: Malta, A Traveler's Guide by Amit Offir does just that. The author writes passionately about Malta and the book has some spectacular pictures to tempt anyone to go there! A highly recommended read.
I've never been to Malta, but I've always wanted to go and now I want to go even more! I love how this book is more like having a personal guide rather than a book. It's not tedious and written in a robotic tone of a history textbook, like most other travel guides are. It's filled with interesting anecdotes and tidbits. The author really interweaves himself in the text and it makes for a lovely read.
I enjoyed reading this book even though I don’t plan to visit Malta at the moment, the stories are awesome, and Amit is so adventurous he puts you along with him into the experience of the trip. Liked it !!
I'm used to reading travel books that creates an itinerary and helps you decide which are the best places to visit or best places to eat food. This book was more like reading someone's diary/ blog than a travel guide.I liked the history part and all of the things I learned from Malta, but as I mentioned before it wasn't the type of guide that I like to read.
Having spent a lot of time on the island in the late 60’s and early 70’s, I was please to revisit Malta through the eye’s of another visitor. There were so many more things to experience, but the author did a great job giving his readers a taste of the flavor of this historic country.
This guide is written in a story format which I enjoyed reading. The pics are beautiful. I recommend it.
I have an opportunity to visit Malta later this summer for a few days of family vacay. This book gave me a great overview of sites to see & things to not miss.
