Like owls or just want the best guide on this family of birds? This book is for you. The artwork is much superior to the book's first edition and the information is mind-boggling, but easy to find, well organized and well presented. Excellent ranges maps, too, and a real study of owls' lives and morphology. There isn't much you won't find in this excellent hardcover (not a field guide -- too heavy). Likely the best guide on this popular bird family ever, and there have been dozens written.
Pricey, but really THE book you need on owls, if you're beyond juvenile. The gotta-have-it is the 72 color plates of owls, each with 8-10 different varieties of the various species. Totally comprehensive!
Exactly as described-quick delivery-thank you!

Great pictures
Perfect, contain all species of owls with their morphos
This is both an encyclopedia and a beautiful pictorial synopsis of the topic. Most probably THE definitive work on the topic.
I'm a lover of all type of birds and Owls are one of my favorite species. A friend of mine had given me this book a few years ago as a gift because he knows how much I love birds. I'm always fascinated with it whenever I open the book to do a little reading. When I saw this on Amazon for sale I could not help myself but write a small review with my reading and experiencing the excitement of knowing so much about Owls.We have a lot of folklore's in our country about Owls. I think in every country they have some sort of mystical thing with them. Some say they are wise old birds.I remember when I was a kid and that was in the early '70s they introduced Sesame Street and shortly thereafter they introduced the Owl as a wise bird and ever so often someone will go over to him and ask a question...Oh boy those were the good old days.I read in another book called "Prayer on Top of the Earth: The Spiritual Universe of the Plains Apaches" an excerpt on page 74 Owls; [Quote] Yet among the anomalous birds and animals, some were viewed ambiguously because of unique positive characteristics, such as owls, which were considered a source of wisdom or instruction. The owl, called ìs÷cì, an Apache word meaning “skull,†was, according to Rose Chaletsin, one of the most feared of all animals and birds. It had a large flattened face, large eyes that were open at night, enormous external ear openings, and “horns†(ear tufts common to some species of owls), which have engendered the names “devil†and “devil’s bird.†Possessing acute and discriminating hearing, the owl was adept at locating prey at night and could dart from concealment to swiftly render victims helpless. The fact that, unlike other birds, the owl was nocturnal was considered anomalous. This characteristic, added to its overall scary appearance, formed the basis for many owl taboos. [End quote]For Owl lovers this is a very good book to own. You learn a lot from the author's description and details of the different species all over the world.
