I love reading about the hardships of the families who traveled West to build a better life for themselves. It was easy to imagine, through this story, the different personalities and perspectives that were involved. Although I enjoyed the story, there were very many misspelled or misused words. A good editor is needed!
Following the civil war and the onset of reconstruction some southerners felt forced to leave the south they knew and head west. The road to the west was difficult and only endured by hope. When they were able to file homesteads and begin new hard lives it was love that sustained them and made all possible.
The heart aches and hardships suffered by Louisa and the family that took her in after she lost her parents are hard for me to comprehend. Losing everything in Georgia after the Civil War and heading to Kansas to begin a new life does not turn out as dreamed.A good read
A wonderful story . I found it to be a real page turner. I have always been fascinated with the old west. How they faced hardships and carried on with their lives and the items they cooked and the remades to cure their illnesses.
I enjoyed this story and was able to relate to the characters, and especially the new life in Kansas a trail i traveled years ago. I recommend this book and it's journey. The only negative was a few misspelled words.
I don't know about this book. Louisa never will never get her western adventure but will be a hard worker for Samuel and James. The author could have taken the book a little further in the future to see what happened to each couple.
Her home and life will never be the same. She heads west on a wagon train. This is about her trip and the hard times. Good story.
This book was pleasant and I had a hard time putting it down. Just a little wordy at times seemingly without going anywhere, but I trudged through it and did enjoy!
